The Joint Entrance for Lateral Entry (JELET) is a state-level entrance exam which is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). It is designed for diploma holders and B.Sc. graduates who wish to gain lateral entry (direct second-year admission) into B.Tech and B.Pharm courses in various engineering and pharmacy colleges across West Bengal.

The exam is held once a year in an offline mode (OMR-based), covering subjects relevant to diploma and B.Sc. coursework. Admission is granted based on merit, with a centralized counselling process conducted by WBJEEB.

Purpose

The purpose of JELET (Joint Entrance for Lateral Entry) is to facilitate lateral entry admissions into the second year (third semester) of B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm courses in various colleges and universities in West Bengal.

Steps of Application

  1. Registration – Visit the official website and register using a valid email ID and phone number.
  2. Filling Application Form – Enter personal details, educational qualifications, and other required information.
  3. Uploading Documents – Upload scanned copies of the required documents (photograph, signature, etc.).
  4. Payment of Application Fee – Pay the application fee online via debit/credit card or net banking.
  5. Final Submission – Review the form and submit it. Download and print the confirmation page for future reference.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens.

2. Educational Qualification:

  • Diploma Holders:
    • Must have a diploma in Engineering/Technology with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates) from an AICTE-approved institution.
  • B.Sc. Degree Holders:
    • Must have a B.Sc. degree with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD) and Mathematics as a subject in 12th standard.
  • Pharmacy Diploma Holders:
    • Must have a diploma in Pharmacy with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates).

3. Age Limit:

  • For diploma & B.Sc. candidates: No age limit.
  • For Marine Engineering candidates: Maximum age limit is 25 years.

4. Domicile Requirement:

  • Candidates seeking government institute seats must fulfill West Bengal domicile criteria.

Counselling and Admission

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) conducts the JELET counselling process for lateral entry admission to B.Tech/B.E. and B.Pharm courses in various colleges across West Bengal. The counselling process is conducted online and involves multiple rounds.

The step-by-step process is listed below:

1. Registration & Fee Payment

  • Candidates must register online on the official WBJEEB website (wbjeeb.nic.in).
  • Pay the counselling fee (non-refundable).

 

2. Choice Filling & Locking

  • Select preferred colleges and courses based on eligibility and seat availability.
  • Lock the choices before the deadline.

 

3. Seat Allotment (Round 1 & 2)

  • WBJEEB releases the seat allotment results based on rank, category, and seat availability.
  • Candidates can either accept the seat or upgrade in the next round.

 

4. Seat Acceptance & Fee Payment

  • If allotted a seat, pay the seat acceptance fee and download the provisional allotment letter.

 

5. Reporting to the Allotted Institute

  • Visit the allotted institute for document verification and final admission.

 

6. Mop-Up Round (if applicable)

  • Conducted for vacant seats after the main rounds.
