The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step toward strengthening medical education by approving the establishment of a new government medical institution, Piduguralla Medical College. The college is expected to commence its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery program from the 2026–27 academic session, offering 100 MBBS seats to aspiring medical students. 🏥
As part of the preparation for the college’s launch, the state government has sanctioned 520 faculty and staff positions to ensure that the institution meets academic and operational requirements. Recruitment for teaching and non-teaching staff will be carried out in phases so that the college is fully functional before the first batch of students begins classes.
The establishment of the new medical college is part of a broader national initiative to expand medical education infrastructure and address the shortage of healthcare professionals across the country. The college is being developed under centrally sponsored schemes aimed at increasing the number of government medical colleges, particularly in underserved regions. This move is expected to improve both access to medical education and healthcare services in surrounding districts. 🌍
Before admissions begin, the college will need to obtain the necessary approvals and recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), which regulates medical education standards and ensures that institutions meet required norms for infrastructure, faculty strength, and clinical facilities.
Local authorities have also stated that construction work on academic buildings, hostels, and hospital facilities is progressing steadily. Once completed, the institution is expected to function as a teaching hospital, providing medical services to nearby rural and semi-urban populations while offering practical training opportunities for students. 🩺
The launch of Piduguralla Medical College is expected to create new opportunities for NEET aspirants and contribute to the long-term goal of improving doctor-patient ratios in India.
