MBBS is an undergraduate medical degree course. The duration of the course is 5.5 years which includes 4.5 years of academic study and 1 year of mandatory internship.

Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCI, PIO, and Foreign Nationals are eligible.
Age Requirement
Minimum age of 17 years by admission or before December 31st of the joining year.
Age Limit
No upper NEET Age Limit for UG applicants.
Educational qualifications
Candidate must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Bio-technology
at the qualifying examination as mentioned in the Regulations of NMC and DCI.
Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes (NCL), the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology taken together in the qualifying
examination shall be 40% marks
Qualifying Year
Candidates who have passed Class XII or appearing for Class XII in the Academic Year are eligible for NEET UG exam, subject to fulfilling other conditions.
Number of Attempts
No limit on the number of attempts.
Apart from the above eligibility criteria for appearing NEET UG exam, candidate must qualify the NEET entrance examination to apply for MBBS
Additional information
You can apply for the NEET UG exam even if you have not completed Class 12 but appeared in the same academic year and your results are expected before the counselling starts.
Medical Aspirants who have passed / appearing Class 12 from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) can also apply for the NEET UG exam from 2024 Onwards.
Mathematics scores are not considered for the NEET examination
Counselling and Admission
All NEET Qualified candidates must apply for the counselling.
It is mandatory for all Indian Medical Aspirant to qualify NEET UG exam to remain eligible to get admission under MBBS course. Even if a candidate wants to study MBBS outside India, still he/she has to qualify the NEET
UG exam.
Role of NTA is limited to conduct the NEET exam and provide score & All India Rank. After qualifying NEET UG exam, candidate has to apply for the respective State Counselling to get admission into the State Government
Medical Colleges or Private Colleges of that State. Or candidates can apply for Central Counselling conducted by MCC to get admission into Central Universities/Central Government Medical Colleges or Deemed Medical Colleges.
There is no provision for Direct Admission in MBBS course without counselling.
Step-by-step process of counselling and admission:
Step 1: Qualify NEET-UG
Clear the NEET-UG exam with required cutoff marks.
Counselling – Conducted by state education boards or institutes.
Final Selection – Based on 10+2 marks or entrance exam rank.
Step 2: Register for Counselling
Apply for All India Quota (AIQ) counselling via MCC (for 15% seats) or State Counselling (for 85% state quota seats).
Step 3: Choice Filling & Seat Allotment
Select preferred colleges and lock choices. Seats are allotted based on rank, category, and availability.
Step 4: Document Verification
Submit required documents (NEET scorecard, 12th marksheet, ID proof, etc.).
Step 5: Fee Payment & Admission Confirmation
Pay the admission fees and confirm the seat.
Step 6: Reporting to College
