The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level MBA entrance exam which is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur. Candidates want to pursue MBA/PGDM course in XLRI, XIMB, IMT, TAPMI, and over 160+ B-schools in India need to qualify this entrance exam and should get a valid score. It is held once a year, usually in January, in online mode (CBT). The exam assesses Verbal Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Knowledge. Essay writing is also included but evaluated for shortlisted candidates. With a 3 hours 30 minutes duration, XAT is one of the toughest MBA entrance exams. No sectional time limits, but a unique decision-making section sets it apart.

Steps of Application

  1. Register Online – Visit xiss.ac.in and create an account.
  2. Fill Application Form – Enter personal, academic, and exam details (CAT/XAT/CMAT).
  3. Upload Documents – Submit scanned copies of required documents (photo, signature, certificates).
  4. Pay Application Fee – Make an online payment via debit/credit card or net banking.
  5. Submit Form – Review and finalize the application before submission.
  6. Download Confirmation – Save the acknowledgment receipt for future reference.
  7. Selection Process – Shortlisted candidates will be invited for GD-PI rounds.

 

 

Application Fees

The application fee for XISS varies based on the number of specializations applied for:

  • ₹2,100 – For one specialization
  • ₹2,600 – For two specializations
  • ₹3,100 – For three specializations
  • ₹3,600 – For four specializations

The fee is non-refundable

 

Payment Mode

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • A minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).

Final Year Students:

  • Candidates in their final year of graduation can apply but must complete their degree before the admission deadline.

Entrance Exam:

  • Must have a valid score in CAT, XAT, or CMAT.

Selection Process:

  • Shortlisting based on entrance exam scores.
  • Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds.

 

 

 

 

 

Mode of Exam

Computer-Based Test (CBT) (Online)

XISS does not conduct its own entrance exam. Admission is based on scores from the following national-level management entrance exams, which are conducted in online (computer-based test) mode:

  • CAT (Common Admission Test) – Conducted by IIMs
  • XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) – Conducted by XLRI
  • CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) – Conducted by NTA

Duration of Exam

The duration of the entrance exams accepted for XISS admission is as follows:

  • CAT – 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • XAT – 3 hours 10 minutes (190 minutes)
  • CMAT – 3 hours (180 minutes)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Types of Questions

The XISS admission process considers the following types of entrance exams:

  1. CAT (Common Admission Test) – Conducted by IIMs, focuses on Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, and Data Interpretation.
  2. XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) – Conducted by XLRI, includes Decision Making, GK, and Essay Writing along with usual MBA sections.
  3. CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) – Conducted by NTA, covers Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, Quantitative Techniques, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and General Awareness.

  • Wrong Answer (MCQs only): -1 mark
  • Wrong Answer (TITA/non-MCQs): No negative marking

2. XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)

  • Correct Answer: +1 mark
  • Wrong Answer: -0.25 mark
  • Un attempted Questions (after 8): -0.10 mark per question
  • General Knowledge (GK) Section: No negative marking
  • Essay: Evaluated in the later rounds

3. CMAT (Common Management Admission Test)

  • Correct Answer: +4 marks
  • Wrong Answer: -1 mark

Counselling and Admission

Candidates with valid scores in CAT 2024, XAT 2025, or CMAT 2025 are eligible to apply.

The step-by-step process is listed below:

Step 1: Apply Online

  • Candidates must apply through the XISS official website (xiss.ac.in) before the deadline.
  • A valid score in CAT, XAT, or CMAT is mandatory.

 

Step 2: Shortlisting for GD-PI

  • Based on entrance exam scores, shortlisted candidates will be invited for Group Discussion (GD) & Personal Interview (PI).

 

Step 3: GD & PI Rounds

  • Conducted in multiple cities or online (if required).
  • Evaluates communication skills, leadership potential, and subject knowledge.
