Purpose

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is conducted for admission to undergraduate programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Pharmacy in various government, private, and self-financed institutions across West Bengal.

Steps of Application

• Register on wbjeeb.nic.in.
• Fill out the application form with personal, academic, and contact details.
• Upload documents (photo, signature, category certificate, etc.).
• Pay the application fee online via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
• Submit & print the confirmation page for future reference.

Application Fees

• General (Male Candidates): ₹500
• General (Female Candidates): ₹400
• SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD (Male Candidates): ₹400
• SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD (Female Candidates): ₹300

Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality:

• Must be an Indian citizen.
• OCI candidates can apply but are eligible for unreserved seats only.

2. Age Limit:

• Minimum Age: 17 years as of December 31, 2025.
• Upper Age Limit: No limit (except for Marine Engineering – maximum 25 years).

3. Educational Qualification:

• Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board.
• For Engineering/Technology:
• Subjects: Physics, Mathematics (compulsory), and one from Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science/Biotechnology.
• Minimum Marks: 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD).
• Must have passed English with 30% marks.
• For Pharmacy:
• Subjects: Physics, Chemistry (compulsory), and one from Mathematics/Biology.
• Minimum Marks: 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD).

Mode of Exam

• Offline (OMR-based)
• Pen-and-Paper format
• Candidates must darken the correct options using a blue/black ballpoint pen.

Total Duration: 4 Hours (240 Minutes)
Exam is conducted in two shifts:

• Paper 1 (Mathematics)
• Duration: 2 Hours
• Timing: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
• Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry)
• Duration: 2 Hours
• Timing: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

For Engineering Admissions: Candidates must appear for both Paper 1 & Paper 2.

For Pharmacy Admissions: Candidates can appear for only Paper 2 (except for Jadavpur University, where both papers are required).

• 1 mark per correct answer
• Negative marking: -0.25 for wrong answers
2. Category 2 (Single Correct Option)
• 2 marks per correct answer
• Negative marking: -0.50 for wrong answers
3. Category 3 (One or More Correct Options)
• 2 marks per correct answer
• No negative marking
• Partial marking available (if some correct options are selected)

Syllabus

The WBJEE syllabus is based on the Class 11 & 12 curriculum of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) and CBSE.

Subjects & Topics:

1️. Mathematics (Paper 1)

• Algebra: Quadratic Equations, Permutations & Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Matrices & Determinants
• Trigonometry: Trigonometric Ratios, Identities, Heights & Distances
• Coordinate Geometry: Straight Lines, Circles, Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola
• Calculus: Limits, Continuity, Differentiation, Integration, Differential Equations
• Vectors & 3D Geometry

2️. Physics (Paper 2 - Part A)

• Mechanics: Laws of Motion, Work & Energy, Gravitation, Fluid Mechanics
• Electricity & Magnetism: Current Electricity, Capacitors, Magnetic Effects of Current
• Optics & Waves: Reflection, Refraction, Wave Optics, Sound Waves
• Modern Physics: Atomic Models, Radioactivity, Semiconductors

3️. Chemistry (Paper 2 - Part B)

• Physical Chemistry: Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, Thermodynamics, Chemical Equilibrium
• Inorganic Chemistry: Periodic Table, Coordination Compounds, Metallurgy
• Organic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Aldehydes & Ketones, Polymers, Biomolecules

Marking Scheme

Category 1:

• Marks per question: 1
• Correct answer: +1
• Wrong answer: -0.25 (negative marking)
• Only one correct option

Category 2:

• Marks per question: 2
• Correct answer: +2
• Wrong answer: -0.50 (negative marking)
• Only one correct option

Category 3:

• Marks per question: 2
• Correct answer: +2
• Wrong answer: No negative marking
• Multiple correct options possible
• Partial marking available for selecting some correct options

Preparation Tips

1. Understand the Syllabus & Exam Pattern

• Focus on Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry from Class 11 & 12 syllabus.
• Check the marking scheme and question categories.

2. Follow Standard Books

• Mathematics: RD Sharma, NCERT, S.L. Loney
• Physics: HC Verma, NCERT, DC Pandey
• Chemistry: NCERT, OP Tandon, Morrison & Boyd (Organic)
