The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session-2, one of India’s most important engineering entrance tests, has been partially rescheduled after the original exam date of 5 April 2026 was found to coincide with Easter Sunday. The decision was approved by the central government following appeals from community organizations and student groups highlighting the clash with a major religious observance.
The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is scheduled to take place between 2 April and 9 April 2026. With thousands of candidates expected to appear on 5 April, authorities decided to provide an alternative date for affected students to ensure that no candidate is forced to choose between religious commitments and a national-level examination.
According to officials, candidates who were originally allotted the 5 April exam slot will be given the option to appear on another date within the same examination window. The move has been widely welcomed by students and parents, as it demonstrates sensitivity toward religious diversity and promotes inclusivity in the examination process.
The JEE Main exam serves as the gateway for admission into undergraduate engineering programs such as B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning at prestigious institutions including the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions. Any change in the exam schedule therefore has a significant impact on lakhs of aspirants across the country.
The NTA has advised candidates to regularly check the official JEE Main portal for updated schedules, revised admit cards, and further instructions regarding the rescheduled examination date. Students are also encouraged to keep their login credentials ready so they can download updated documents as soon as they are released.
This rescheduling highlights the government’s effort to balance academic schedules with cultural and religious sensitivities while ensuring that the examination process remains fair and accessible to all candidates.
