The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken a major step toward expanding medical education infrastructure by approving 520 faculty and staff positions for the upcoming Piduguralla Medical College. The institution is scheduled to begin offering the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program from the 2026–27 academic session, with an initial intake capacity of 100 students.

The sanctioned posts include teaching faculty, administrative staff, and essential support personnel required to ensure the smooth functioning of the college and its attached teaching hospital. This move is part of the state’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare education and improve access to quality medical services in underserved regions.

The establishment of the new medical college is expected to benefit students from nearby districts, who often have to travel long distances to pursue medical education. By increasing the number of government medical seats, the state aims to create more opportunities for aspiring doctors while also addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals in rural and semi-urban areas.

Before admissions begin, the college will need to secure the necessary approvals and recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), which oversees standards in medical education across the country. The institution must meet strict requirements related to infrastructure, faculty strength, laboratory facilities, and hospital services to receive clearance.

Construction of academic buildings, hostels, and hospital infrastructure is reportedly progressing at a steady pace. Once operational, the teaching hospital associated with the college will provide essential medical services to the local population while offering hands-on clinical training to students.

The launch of Piduguralla Medical College reflects the government’s continued focus on improving both medical education capacity and public healthcare delivery. The addition of 100 new MBBS seats from 2026–27 is expected to ease competition and provide more opportunities for candidates qualifying through national-level entrance examinations.
