The admission process, managed by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), started on 1 April 2026 and will continue until 31 May 2026, giving students two months to complete their applications.

These seats are distributed across government, grant-in-aid, autonomous, and self-financed engineering institutions throughout the state. Out of the total intake, over 10,000 seats are available in government and grant-in-aid colleges, while the majority are offered by self-financed institutions. The state government is also considering adding around 2,500 additional government seats, which could further increase opportunities for engineering aspirants.

Eligibility and Admission Process

Candidates who have appeared for GUJCET 2026, JEE Main 2026, or both are eligible to participate in the admission process. However, students who appeared for these exams in previous years are not eligible for this year’s centralized counselling. The minimum eligibility requirement remains 45% marks in Class 12 (40% for reserved categories), in accordance with AICTE norms.

The ACPC will release the provisional merit list and final seat matrix in June, followed by mock choice filling and multiple rounds of counselling. The first round of seat allotment is expected in the second half of June, and academic sessions across engineering colleges are scheduled to begin in July 2026.

Seat Distribution and Institutional Quotas

In self-financed institutions, 50% of the seats will be filled through ACPC’s centralized counselling, while the remaining seats will be filled at the institute level, including a management and NRI quota. Government colleges, on the other hand, will primarily admit students through merit-based centralized allocation.

Increased Opportunities for Engineering Aspirants

The significant rise in available seats compared to previous years reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to expand technical education capacity. With thousands of seats across diverse engineering disciplines, Gujarat continues to remain one of the major hubs for engineering education in India.

Students are advised to regularly check the official ACPC portal for updates on document verification, choice filling, and counselling schedules to avoid missing critical deadlines.

Source: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/gujarat-registration-for-78611-degree-engineering-seats-begin-on-april-1/

The Gujarat government has officially commenced the registration process for admission to 78,611 undergraduate engineering seats for the 2026–27 academic session.
